No_to_Broga_incinerator

The Malaysian government intends to build an incinerator in Broga, Selangor, but has furnished practically no pertinent information about the project. This blog will attempt to document the protest by mostly Broga and Semenyih residents against the project and the opaque manner in which it was conceived.

Letter from Alice (May 24 court hearing)

Dear friends,

Just let you update about our court hearing on May 24 (Wednesday) at the Shah Alam High Court.

1. The two Defendants had todate failed to answer all the questions that were raised by the Broga residents. Because of that, the Judge, Suriadi Halim Omar, has given us the Enclosure 25/locus standi. This means I have locus standi now.

2. Our 4th hearing has been fixed for July 11.

3. All the residents were happy with the Judge's decision.

4. One more good news is--the Bar Council sent a lawyer to the hearing to assist our Lawyer, T Uma Parvathy. A few students from DEMA (Malaysia Youth and Students Democratic Movement) also came to support us.

5. About 40 residents attended the court hearing which began at 4.30pm and ended at 5.10pm. We left Broga at 7am by bus and came back at 7pm. Very tired but also very happy...

6. The media turned up yesterday--Malaysiakini, The Sun and Nanyang Siang Pau.

With best regards,
Alice Lee,
Plaintiff,
o/b Broga residents

Note: Having exhausted all political and government channels to obtain answers to their queries about the project on Nov 8, 3003, Broga residents filed a suit to seek a court declaration ordering the government to disclose full details of the 1,500-tonne capacity incinerator estimated at RM1.5 billion, planned for Broga.
